NOFX

NOFX is an American punk rock band from Los Angeles, active from 1983 to 2024. The group’s core line-up centres on bassist and lead vocalist Fat Mike, rhythm guitarist Eric Melvin and drummer Erik Sandin, with Sandin briefly leaving in 1985 before returning the following year. El Hefe joins in 1991 on lead guitar and trumpet and becomes part of the band’s best-known configuration.

Style and career

The band works across punk rock, hardcore punk, melodic hardcore, pop punk, ska punk and ska. Unlike many punk contemporaries, NOFX does not sign to a major label, and its releases appear on NOFX Music and Epitaph. The group becomes especially prominent during the 1990s punk revival, when its wider profile grows alongside mainstream interest in punk.

Recordings and releases

NOFX releases fifteen studio albums, sixteen EPs and a number of 7-inch singles. Its fifth studio album, Punk in Drublic (1994), becomes its best-known release and the only one to receive gold certification from the RIAA. Other studio albums include Liberal Animation, S&M Airlines, Ribbed, White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean, Heavy Petting Zoo, So Long and Thanks for All the Shoes, Pump Up the Valuum, The War on Errorism, Wolves in Wolves' Clothing, Coaster, Self Entitled, First Ditch Effort, Single Album and Double Album.

Other work and legacy

The group sells more than eight million records worldwide and is regarded as one of the most successful independent bands. In 2008, it broadcasts its own show on Fuse, NOFX: Backstage Passport. Its fifteenth and final studio album, Double Album, appears in 2022, and the band retires after a 2024 tour.
