Nightstalker

Nightstalker are a Greek stoner rock band from Athens, Greece. The group forms in 1989 and remains active, with a line-up centred on Argy, Andreas and Tolis. Their music is identified with hard rock, rock, stoner rock and stoner metal, and they are closely associated with the Greek stoner scene.

Background

The band begins with Argy, who starts the project as singer and drummer and is the founding member. Nightstalker build their reputation through constant live activity and a live show style that becomes one of their defining features. They are widely described as a cult act within stoner rock and develop a strong following from early on through their performances and compilation appearances.

Early releases and first albums

Nightstalker first issue the EP SideFx in 1995 on Iptamenoi Diskoi and Hitch-Hyke. Songs including Spit, What Your Name Is and Keep Knockin' become regular parts of their concerts, while Mad Prophet signals the sound they develop afterwards.

The band then release the full-length album Use on FM Records. Tracks such as Give Me, Use, Raw, TriggerHappy and This is U help establish the record as an important release for them. The album is later reissued in 2007.

Line-up changes and later work

After Hill leaves, the remaining members continue as a trio. In the new millennium they issue the EP The Ritual, a darker release that includes Galactic Revolution, Hide Your Sun and a cover of Motörhead’s Iron Horse. A drummer joins for live appearances, and the band’s concerts remain a major part of their identity.

A later line-up includes guitarist Tolis, who has worked with Argy before in the project Superdoz. In 2004 the band release Just A Burn, which expands their audience and strengthens their fan base. The album includes All Around, Just A Burn, Voodoo U Do and Line.

Superfreak and label history

Nightstalker later sign with the US label MeteorCity for Superfreak, which is released in 2009. Their recorded work and live reputation place them among the best-known names in their scene.

Reputation

The band also appear on compilations including Divin' and Toxic Babes in a R'n'R Land. Across their career, Nightstalker are known for a direct rock and roll attitude, sustained live activity and a catalogue of releases that helps define Greek stoner rock.
