Nick Mulvey
Nick Mulvey is an English singer-songwriter and musician from Cambridge, born in 1984. He works in indie folk and begins his career as a founder member of Portico Quartet, a band nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2008.
Early life and education
At 19, Mulvey moves to Havana, Cuba, to study music and art. After returning to the UK, he studies ethnomusicology at the School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London.
Portico Quartet and solo work
Mulvey leaves Portico Quartet in 2011 to focus on his solo career as a singer-songwriter. He then releases two EPs on Communion Records: The Trellis in 2012 and Fever to the Form in 2013.
Albums and recognition
His debut album, First Mind, appears in 2014. It receives a Mercury Music Prize nomination, and the album is promoted by the singles “Cucurucu” and “Meet Me There”.
