Never Shout Never

Never Shout Never is an American group from Joplin, Missouri, active since 2007. It begins as a solo project by musician Christofer Drew Ingle, and later develops into a band. The group’s members are Ian Crawford, Christofer Drew and Aaron Flora. Its sound spans alternative rock, emo pop, folk rock, indie rock, and power pop, with acoustic and indie elements also associated with it.

Origins and early growth

Never Shout Never starts after Drew learns guitar from a friend in his early teens and begins making music on a Macintosh computer with sound-editing software his parents buy him. He records an EP by himself in his basement and builds an early audience online, using MySpace and word of mouth. The project becomes a notable internet success, with more than 40,000 online plays a day and shows headlining across the Midwest. It reaches the top of MySpace’s unsigned artist listing in early July, and its first official release, the YIPPEE EP, is followed by a performance on TRL’s “on your radar” segment the next day.

Ingle adopts the name Never Shout Never after trying a few other names and taking it from one of his songs. The spelling of the name changes over time, and at one point it appears as NeverShoutNever! before later being written without an exclamation point.

Releases

The group releases a series of EPs and albums between 2008 and 2015. Its EPs include demo-shmemo, The Yippee EP, Me & My Uke EP, The Summer EP, Never Shout Never - EP, and Melody - EP. The album The Summer EP reaches number 57 in the U.S. The studio albums listed are What Is Love?, Harmony, Time Travel, Indigo, Sunflower, Recycled Youth - Volume One, and Black Cat.
