Neutrino

Neutrino is a Chicago-based post-rock band active from 1997 to 2000. The group is a duo made up of Carl Saff and Brian Wnukowski.

Style and releases

The band plays mostly instrumental rock with dark chord progressions and minor-key writing. Their sound is described as drawing on math rock and post-rock, with comparisons to Slint and Sweep the Leg Johnny, while also developing a distinct style of its own.

Neutrino records two albums during its short run: Improved Hearing through Amplification in 1998 and Motion Picture Soundtrack in 1999. The latter includes the track “Back to the Map.”

Background

The band members come out of earlier Midwestern heavy rock groups, including Lustre King, Pencil and Big'n. After Neutrino, they go on to play in Emperor Penguin and Runner.
