Nereus Joseph

Nereus Joseph is a reggae singer who first appears on the UK reggae scene in 1979 with the single “Roots & Culture”, recorded as lead singer with the Coptic Roots Band. After touring with the group for a few years, he signs to the Clapham-based label Fashion Records.

Early releases and Fashion Records

His first release with Fashion leads to the number one hit “Sensi Crisis”, followed by “Special Lady”. His debut album, “Loves Gotta Take It’s Time”, includes the single “Move On Up”. He then records two further albums for Fashion, “Yours to Keep” and “Guidance”. The title track from “Guidance” becomes a notable UK 1980s release.

Tours and live work

In the latter part of the 1980s, Joseph tours extensively in Europe and the Caribbean. During this period he supports artists including Bunny Wailer, Dennis Brown and Chakademus & Pliers, and also headlines tours to Turkey and other places.

1990s recordings

After a break, he records with Saxon Records in the early 1990s. That partnership produces three hit singles: “Shouldn’t Touch It”, “Wonderful Feeling” and “Giving All My Time”.

In 1996 he collaborates with the reggae supergroup Passion on the Charm Records national chart hit “Share Your Love”. In March 1997 he releases the album “Rejoice” on Charm, which includes the singles “Keep Loving You”, “Rejoice” and “Keep Up the Vibes”, both produced by Ruff Cutt.

Later work

His collaboration with Ruff Cutt continues into the new millennium, resulting in the album “Hope Faith & Love”, which features the singles “Jah Never Fail” and “African Resistance”.
