Neon

Neon is an Italian new wave group that forms in Florence in 1979 and remains active. It is part of the 1980s Florentine dark wave and electronic scene alongside Pankow, Diaframma and early Litfiba. The group is identified as an 80s Italian new wave band and is associated with new wave, post-punk, synthpop and dark wave.

History

The band begins in Florence in 1979. Marcello Michelotti is the only permanent member and leads the group. The verified membership also includes Piero Balleggi. Neon comes out of the broader Florence underground scene of the 1980s, where it sits among other dark wave and electronic acts.

Neon’s early releases appear on KinderGarten Records. These recordings help establish the band within Italian new wave and dark wave history.
