Naaz
Naaz is a Dutch-Kurdish indie pop singer from Gorinchem, the Netherlands. She moves to Rotterdam with her family at the age of two. Her parents flee Iraq during the Gulf War; her father works as a doctor and her mother as his assistant. She is bullied at school, but a teacher gives her support that she remembers as important.
A car accident in which her parents are injured changes the family’s attitude to her musical ambitions. Before that, music is treated as something the household does not encourage, but afterwards they become more open to her career.
Career
Naaz first receives wider attention through Holland's Got Talent in 2014. Her independent career begins to gather pace in 2016, when she starts releasing singles on Spotify. Sadboy appears that year, although she later regards it as more of a sketch than a finished statement. She considers Words from 2017 to be her proper debut song.
She continues with a run of singles and two EPs, Bits of Naaz in 2018 and The Beautiful Struggle in 2019. After a period away from the spotlight, she returns as an independent artist in 2022, having moved from Rotterdam to Amsterdam, with the single Sad Violins.
Albums and later releases
In 2023, Naaz releases the album Never Have I Ever. Stand-alone singles and EPs continue to appear through 2024 and 2025. She then releases her second full-length album, The Sky Knows I Exist.
