Myles Sanko

Myles Sanko is a UK soul recording artist, music producer and cinematographer of French and Ghanaian descent. He is from Accra and London and is born in 1980. His work sits across soul, funk, jazz and related styles, with the input of a live band and a strong emphasis on groove and rhythm.

Career

Sanko first records professionally as the frontman of Bijoumiyo, a funk, soul and improv band. He later joins the retro-funk group Speedometer and performs worldwide with them. He is also described as an unsigned independent artist, and his recordings appear on 213 Music.

He begins posting live acoustic performance videos on his YouTube channel in 2011, inviting listeners to choose songs for studio recording. This direct approach helps build his audience and leads to performances at Festival de Giverny in France and other dates across Europe.

Solo work

Sanko launches his solo project with the album Born In Black & White. He describes the music as soul shaped by rock chord progressions and played by jazz musicians, with lyrical content intended to be thoughtful as well as uplifting. He also releases the single So Hard To Stop from the album, accompanied by a self-directed video shot in central Paris.

The album attracts attention from producers, DJs and bloggers and receives airplay on BBC Radio. Sanko also plans a second album and further touring activity.
