Murder Mile

Murder Mile are a group formed in March 2002 after Cheese Cake Truck, Yoko’s previous band, cannot perform at Sam Powell’s Rock’n’Roll Circus tribute gig. Yoko puts together three songs and assembles the band under the name Murder Mile, a reference to the Hackney stretch where three of the members live.

Early releases and first run

The band begins as a one-off show, but after a few more gigs they record their first seven-track release, Where Dogs Go To Die, which is completed within a day. They then tour Ireland and Holland and play headline shows around the UK. A second EP, Burning Child, follows. The group then splits in late 2004.

Reformation and line-up

The songs continue to be written after the split, and the band reforms so they can be performed live. The later line-up consists of Yoko Homo on vocals, Chriz on guitar, Dr Rouge on bass and Tamas Kiss on drums.

Style and reception

Murder Mile are described as a band that sits somewhere between Capdown and what is termed total mental breakdown. Burning Child is named single of the month by Organ Magazine, and Rock Sound gives the band a four-K rating.

At the point described, Murder Mile are booking gigs around the UK and preparing to record a first full-length album.
