Morphosis

Morphosis is the techno project of Rabih Beaini, also known as Ra.H. He is a techno DJ and producer from Byblos, Italy, and has been active since the 1990s. He begins as a DJ, then starts working in the studio after moving to Italy in 1996. His productions sit between raw electronic music, minimal techno, dub techno and jazz-inflected ideas, and he releases music on labels including Sistrum Recordings, M>O>S and Styrax.

Music and releases

As Morphosis, Beaini develops a style described through emotional and imaginative techno, with a focus on depth and texture. His label Morphine Records also becomes an important part of his work, releasing techno from artists including Madteo, Hieroglyphic Being and Anthony “Shake” Shakir. Through this label he presents a wide-ranging, forward-looking selection of electronic music.

One Morphosis album, What Have We Learned, appears on M>O>S, Delsin and Morphine. Tracks from that release, including “Androids Among Us” and “Dirty Matter,” are remixed by T++ and Newworldaquarium for a limited-edition white label issue. His work is also linked to a fuller live or home-listening experience, with the project presented as a long-form approach to techno.

Other projects

Beaini also continues other musical projects in Lebanon, including a new Upperground Orchestra album. His work under Morphosis sits alongside these wider activities in electronic music.

Other artists using the name Morphosis

The name is also used by other acts. One is a Finnish thrash metal band from Kuusamo, formed in 1988 and the first band of Demonos Sova; it releases two demos. Another is an Irish metal band centred on Vinnie and George, active since 1985, originally recording as Asphyxia before changing name to Morphosis and later reforming in 2005. That line-up includes Squelch on vocals and Andy on drums, and it releases the album Rise of the Bastard Deities on Sentinal Records.
