Monza Express

Monza Express are a five-piece guitar band from Aberdeen, Scotland. The group features Fraser Bateman on lead vocals and guitar, Greg Burgess on bass, Kris Fraser on keyboards, Shaun Reid on guitar, and “Deco” Smith on drums. It forms around three songwriters, which gives the band scope to move between different styles across its set.

Releases and reception

The band begins to attract local attention in Aberdeen for its live performances, catchy riffs and memorable lyrics. Its debut song, Sunshine, appears in 2018 and receives praise for its upbeat, jangle-pop sound. In the City follows in 2019 and is described as having jaunty songs with Beatles-like overtones.

In 2020, Crying on the radio becomes the band’s most notable release, gaining airplay on indie stations across the UK and appearing on playlists that also reach listeners in Europe and the USA. The track also places in several indie year-end countdowns, including the #Indie100cup.

Compilation appearance and reach

Later in 2020, Monza Express appear on the Brits n Pieces compilation album, which enters the official UK Top 50 album chart before the end of the year. By the point described in the biography, the band’s music has passed 10,000 streams since launch, and interest in the group continues to grow.
