Monty Alexander
Monty Alexander is a Jamaican jazz pianist, born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1944 as Montgomery Bernard Alexander. His playing combines jazz with a strong Caribbean feel and swing influence, and his work also draws on reggae.
Style and approach
Alexander is known for versatility across a wide range of musical settings. He performs both in small ensembles and with orchestra, and his music moves between jazz and reggae. He describes the piano as a way of connecting with other people, and he presents himself as a musician open to many forms of music rather than to a single style.
