Monika

Monika is a Greek singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Greece, based in Athens. She is born Λεμονιά Χριστοδούλου in 1985 and grows up in Karpenisi. She begins playing piano at five and buys her first guitar at ten. She later joins an orchestra to take saxophone lessons, which continue for five years. She also plays accordion and drums.

Early work and bands

Before her solo career, she is a member of her brother’s band Serpentine, where she sings and plays electric guitar. After moving to Athens to study mathematics at university, she starts recording songs on her computer. She then joins Relevant Box, playing saxophone and providing backing vocals. She also records material for My Wet Calvin in 2005 and contributes a saxophone part to MENTA in February 2006.

Solo releases

Her first single, “Over the Hill”, appears in 2008. Her debut album, Avatar, is released by Archangel Music later that month and becomes critically well received in Greece. She tours Greece in support of the album, with many shows sold out. Her second album, Exit, is released in 2010, followed by another tour in support of it.
