Monica Heldal

Monica Heldal is a Norwegian singer-songwriter and musician from Bergen and Dundalk. She performs vocals and guitar, and her work is rooted in acoustic and indie folk, with a strong influence from American country-blues and the music of Rory Gallagher.

Career

Heldal draws attention for her technically advanced guitar playing and her vocal style. She gains recognition in Norway and internationally, and her live performances take place in a range of settings. Her interest in Rory Gallagher leads to an invitation to perform at the Rory Gallagher International Tribute Festival in Gallagher’s home town, after which she receives further invitations to play at Notodden, in Oslo, the Netherlands and France.

Awards

In 2014, Heldal wins Spellemannprisen 2013 for Best Pop Artist and Best New Artist, and she also receives The Gramoprize.
