Molotov

Molotov is a Mexican rock band from Ciudad de México, active from 1995 to the present. The group works across alternative rock, comedy rock, funk rock, hip hop, nu metal and rap metal, and its line-up includes Randy Ebright, Jay de la Cueva, Juan Francisco Ayala Gonzalez, Tito Fuentes, Ismael Fuentes de Garay and Miguel Ángel Huidobro Preciado.

Style and language

The band mixes rock and hip hop, with lyrics in both Spanish and English. Vocals are rapped and sung by all members. Its sound combines heavy basslines, flamenco guitar riffs and turntable scratches.

Topics and comparisons

Molotov is often described as a Latin counterpart to Rage Against the Machine. Several of its songs are politically driven, including Gimme Tha Power and Frijolero, which address issues such as disenfranchisement in Mexico and immigration in the United States.
