Mobina Galore

Mobina Galore is a Canadian punk rock group from Winnipeg, Manitoba. The act forms in late 2010 as a duo with Jenna Priestner on guitar and vocals and Marcia Hanson on drums and vocals. Its sound is described as punk, punk-alternative-pop, and rock, with a heavier and rawer edge on later recordings.

Early work and touring

After forming, Mobina Galore tours Canada with a small set of about a dozen alternative-punk songs. This early run leads them to Vancouver to record a self-produced five-song EP, Skeletons, which appears in 2012. The release charts several times on Canadian college radio, reaching number one in Kingston, Ontario, and Kamloops, British Columbia.

In the same period, the group showcases at NXNE, reaches the top 25 in CBC Radio 3’s Tracks on Tracks contest, and begins a first headlining tour of Western Canada in support of Skeletons.

2013 activity

In 2013, Mobina Galore continues to tour widely, including dates in Western Canada and a month-long run through Ontario and Quebec. Their festival and showcase appearances include Big Fun Festival in Winnipeg, Juno Fest in Winnipeg, Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Pouzza Fest in Montreal, and Golden Sound Festival in Golden, British Columbia. They are also finalists in Manitoba Songfest with the track “Hear Me Out,” and they return to NXNE that year.

Recording and style

The group’s album Cities Away is produced by John Paul Peters, whose other credits include Propagandhi, Royal Canoe, and Mahogany Frog. The album is described as punk rock with a strong emotional focus and high energy.
