Mishima

Mishima are a Catalan indie pop band from Barcelona. The group starts out singing in English before shifting to Catalan around 2005, a move that helps establish them as one of the most influential Barcelona bands of the 21st century and as part of the new wave of indie acts writing in Catalan.

Line-up

The band is a five-piece led by David Carabén on voice and guitar. The line-up also includes Xavi Caparrós on bass, Marc Lloret on keyboards, Alfons Serra on drums, and Dani Vega on guitars.

Style and influences

Mishima’s music combines indie and indie pop with a range of literary and musical influences. Their work on L’ànsia que cura draws on references including The Smiths, JG Ballard, Randy Newman, David Lynch, Tindersticks and the chanson française. Their sound is described as combining the energy of a live band with a refined, Mediterranean character.

Their discography includes Lipstick Traces (2000), The Fall Of Public Man (2003), Trucar a casa. Recollir les fotos. Pagar la multa. (2005), Set tota la vida (2007), Ordre i aventura (2010), L'amor feliç (2012), and L’ànsia que cura (2014). The latter is their seventh album and is recorded at Black Box Studios with Peter Deimel, who has worked with acts including The Kills, The Last Shadow Puppets and Anna Calvi.
