Miriam Jones

Miriam Jones is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter and writer who returns to Vancouver after moving from Canada’s East Coast. She is born in Vancouver and becomes active on the city’s music scene after her return. Her work sits in a folk-based acoustic style and is associated with country and pop elements, with comparisons made to Beth Orton, Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow and Dolores O’Riordan, as well as to the acoustic and harmonic approach of David Gray, Iron & Wine and Simon & Garfunkel.

Songwriting and style

Jones is described as a strong writer whose songs combine lyrical depth with a direct, reflective approach aimed at attentive listeners. Releases and airplay

Her debut album is Sign & Semblance, which includes the song “Squander”. That track is used on the Canadian television series Falcon Beach. Her second album is Being Here, and its single “Always Been Between” receives airplay from CBC.

Recognition

Two of her songs advance to the next round of judging in the 2006 International Songwriting Competition. CBC Radio One describes Being Here as a well-written and well-produced folk album with blending of country and pop sensibilities.
