Mike Posner is an American singer, songwriter and producer from Detroit, United States. He is associated with contemporary R&B, dance-pop, electropop, folk pop, pop, hip-hop, rap and electro hop. He is also a member of mansionz.
Early releases and recording career
Posner releases his debut mixtape, Reflections of a Lost Teen, in 2006. He follows it with A Matter of Time and One Foot Out the Door, both of which help bring him to the attention of major labels. A Matter of Time is released in early 2009 and is made with Don Cannon and DJ Benzi. One Foot Out the Door is released on 27 October 2009 and is accompanied by a web series of the same name that runs every other week through December 2009.
Albums and singles
Posner signs to Island Records and also takes a major-label deal with J Records, part of RCA/Sony, in July 2009. His debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, is released in 2010. He later has a major international hit with I Took a Pill in Ibiza, which charts in the Top 10 in many countries in 2015 and 2016. His 2010 single Please Don't Go later becomes widely used on TikTok in 2021.
Collaborations and education
He collaborates with Kid Cudi, Wale, Big Sean, Bun B, One Be Lo, Eric Holljes and 3OH!3, and he is close friends with rapper Big Sean. He works with manager Daniel Weisman of Elitaste, Inc, who also manages Wale. Posner graduates from Duke University in December 2009 with a BA in Sociology and Business. He performs on national television for the first time on Last Call with Carson Daly in October 2009.
