Middle Class Rut

Middle Class Rut are an alternative rock group from Sacramento, United States, active since 2006. The band consists of Zack Lopez, who handles guitar and vocals, and Sean Stockham, who plays drums and sings. Their music is associated with alternative hardcore, and it draws on alternative rock, post-hardcore and rock.

Background

Lopez and Stockham are former core members of Leisure, a band that was signed to DreamWorks in 2000, when they were still in their early teens. After Leisure ends, they return to Sacramento and begin writing and rehearsing together in a home studio. After putting together more than 60 songs, they form Middle Class Rut in December 2006.

Early touring and reception

The band’s first national tour takes place in the autumn of 2008, when they tour with The Receiving End Of Sirens and Envy On The Coast. Their live performances quickly build attention, and they are described as combining the intensity of Jane's Addiction and Refused with the rhythmic force of Rage Against The Machine and the post-punk elements of Foo Fighters. In early coverage, their sound is characterised as complex post-rock with traces of 1990s alternative rock.

Recordings

After releasing a series of EPs, Middle Class Rut issue their debut album, No Name No Color, in 2010. The album appears in the United States and the United Kingdom the same year.
