Midas Fall

Midas Fall is a UK indie rock, post-rock and progressive rock group formed in 2008. The act is based in Edinburgh and is active as a duo, with Michael Hamilton listed as a member.

Sound and style

The group’s music combines post-rock with electronic elements, alt-goth influences and vocal-led arrangements. It is described as chiming and as balancing fragility with force. Reviews also link the band to artists such as Portishead and Explosions in the Sky.

Releases

Midas Fall self-releases its debut EP, Century, in 2009. Its debut album, Eleven. Return and Revert, receives a worldwide release on Monotreme Records in 2010. The second album, Wilderness, follows on Monotreme Records in 2013.

Live work and tours

The band completes its first European tour in 2011, with dates including Belgium’s Dunk! Festival and Germany’s Dark Spring Festival. It also plays sold-out shows in Athens, Sofia, Glasgow, Manchester and London, performs at GoGo Festival, and supports labelmates Jeniferever and Hawk Eyes. In 2012, it appears at Switzerland’s Deadline Festival, shares a bill with 65daysofstatic and Reigns at Monotreme Records’ 10th birthday event in London, plays headline shows in London and Budapest, and supports We Were Promised Jetpacks. The group also supports Japanese post-rock band Mono and Her Name Is Calla.

Broadcast and media

Midas Fall gains national airplay through BBC Introducing’s Tom Robinson and the Best of Myspace podcast. Its track “MovieScreens” appears on the soundtrack for Lip Service on BBC3, a release that charts in the UK top 20 and is later issued in Canada and Australia.

In 2011, the band secures endorsements from JHS Hornby (Fret King Guitars), Diago, DiPinto Guitars, Dava Picks and Lion Cajon Drums.
