Mezzanine

Mezzanine is a group from the United States. It is described as an indie rock band, with a sound shaped by loud, energetic performances, power chords and heavy guitars alongside pulsing rhythms. The group is associated with stoner rock, psychedelic rock, stoner metal, chillout and house.

Style and influences

The band presents itself as direct and unpretentious, with a confrontational rock approach rather than polished or detached performance. Its music is characterised by heavy guitar work and driving rhythm, and it is linked in spirit to artists such as Thurston Moore, Anton Newcombe and Stephen Morrissey.

Early release

Mezzanine begins putting songs together in February 2011 and emerges with its first extended player, Novella. The opening track, “Can’t Feel A Thing”, leads into a darker, more turbulent set of songs built around autobiographical themes and self-deprecation.

Members

The group features singer Cory John Rist, who fronts the material with an emotionally direct delivery.
