Melba Moore

Melba Moore, also known as Melba Hill, is a singer and performer from New York, United States. Born in 1945, she is based in New York and is associated with soul, disco and funk.

Stage work and early recognition

Moore first gains attention in the Broadway production of Hair. She continues to work in theatre as well as music, and wins an award for her performance in the musical Purlie.

Recording career

Alongside her stage work, Moore builds a recording career with a string of R&B releases. Her song This Is It becomes a minor US hit and reaches the UK Top 10 in 1976. After that, her pop chart results are uneven, but she remains present on R&B charts through the following decade.

Later collaborations

In 2010, Moore works with producer Jimmy D Robinson on several club and dance singles. These include Soul Freak, Stop It, Night Creatures, One More Chance, In The Fire and Moonchild.
