MDC

MDC is an American hardcore punk band from Austin, Texas, active since 1981. The group is associated with hardcore punk, punk and queercore, and has also been described as an old school hardcore act. It is known as a USA punk band with strongly political, radical left-wing views.

Formation and name changes

The band first forms in Austin in 1979 under the name The Stains before changing its name to MDC, an abbreviation that is expanded in different ways on different records. After its early years, the band is based in San Francisco, California, and later in Portland, Oregon.

Recordings and labels

MDC releases material through Jello Biafra’s independent label Alternative Tentacles. Its selected releases include Millions of Dead Cops, Smoke Signals, This Blood's for You, Metal Devil Cokes, Hey Cop! If I Had A Face Like Yours..., Shades of Brown, Magnus Dominus Corpus and Mein Trumpf.

Writing and media

In the 1990s, vocalist Dave Dictor publishes editorials for the internationally distributed fanzine Maximumrocknroll.

The current lineup listed includes Dave Dictor on vocals, Russ Kalita on guitar and Mike Smith on bass.
