Maxxi Soundsystem
Maxxi Soundsystem is the house DJ and producer Sam Watts, based in Brighton. He builds his work around house, electronic, deep house, funk and disco, and is active as a DJ, producer and remixer.
Career in Brighton
Before the success of Criticize, Watts spends a number of years DJing, promoting parties and working in his studio in Brighton. He is also known locally for the schtumm! parties, which he runs with his long-time friend and DJ partner Neal Lewis. These events bring a range of acts to Brighton, often for their first local appearance, including Radio Slave, mulletover, Tensnake and the Idjut Boys.
Work with Cagedbaby and live performance
His studio work develops further through collaboration with Thomas Gandey in Cagedbaby. He tours with the project playing live in 2008, and he co-writes a live version of the act for performances in several cities and festivals, including Buenos Aires, Istanbul, Barcelona, Rockness, Glastonbury and the O2 Festival in Hyde Park. Watts and Gandey continue to work together.
Remixes and releases
Watts remixes Wax Motif & Neoteric, Hercules & Love Affair, The 2 Bears and Retro/Grade. Following Criticize, Maxxi Soundsystem signs to Nervous Records' Nürvous imprint, which focuses on old house music.
Later collaborations and touring
He works on new material with Miami producer Danny Daze and London vocalist Royston. He also continues to perform live, with shows including Glastonbury, Glade, Disco Bloodbath, Ministry Of Sound, Garden Festival Croatia, We Love… @ Space Ibiza and Creamfields. His sets combine his own edits and remixes with music drawn from eight years of club experience.
