Mauoq

Mauoq is the recording name of Mauro Campana, a DJ and producer based in London who is originally from Rome, Italy. He works in drum and bass, with a focus on the deeper and groovier end of the genre, and also draws on dubstep influences that shape his approach to bass music.

Style and background

He develops an interest in the UK sound in the mid-1990s and later becomes exposed to dubstep at the end of 2005, which helps redirect his drum and bass tastes. His work is described as rooted in the 170 bpm drum and bass format, with an emphasis on the dub-tinged side of the style.

Podcast and production

In 2010, he starts the Mauoq DNB Podcast, a bi-monthly series set up to showcase recent developments in drum and bass. He has been using basic music software since the late 1990s, but only begins to take production seriously about ten years later, leading to his first release in 2011.

Releases and collaborations

Mauoq releases music on Absys Records, CX Digital, Diffrent Music, Flexout Audio, Protect Audio and other labels. His discography includes tracks and remixes such as Silence Fiction (Mauoq Remix) by Weirdub on Green Queen Music, Aerosolid / Free The Past on Mauoq Music, Dukedom on Extent VIP Records, Intruders and Abracadabra on Absys Records, and Wet Fire / Dry Water on CX Digital.

He also works with Dexta on a number of releases, including Torn / Mtwn Remix / Freedom Dub with MC XL on Protect Audio, Slugger (Tension Dub) on Diffrent Music, and Werewolf / Homemade Weapons Remix on Flexout Audio. Other collaborative credits include Kolectiv, Arkaik and Medika, with additional titles listed on Dispatch Recordings, Nurtured Beatz, Terra Null and Cylon among the planned or unreleased material.
