Matt Willis is a British singer-songwriter from Tooting, United Kingdom, born in 1983. He first becomes known as a member of Busted, and later also performs with McBusted.

Busted

Busted is an English pop and chart act made up of Willis on bass guitar, James Bourne on rhythm guitar and Charlie Simpson on lead guitar and, at times, drums. The band forms in 2001 and later splits in 2005 after Simpson leaves and Willis and Bourne say they do not continue as a duo. During his time in the group, Willis co-writes a large number of songs, including What I Go to School For, You Said No, Year 3000, Sleeping With The Light On, Air Hostess, She Wants to Be Me, 3am, Thunderbirds Are Go!, Losing You, All The Way, Dawsons Geek, When The Day Turns Into Night, Everything I Knew, Loser Kid, Late Night Sauna, My Good Friend, Last Summer, Fake and Better Than This.

While he is in Busted, the band sets a Guinness World Record by selling out Wembley Arena in London six nights in a row.

Solo work

After Busted ends, Willis begins a solo career and describes some of his material as stadium pop-punk. His first solo performance takes place at Northumbria University in Newcastle as part of MTV's Spanking New Music Week. He also appears with McFly at Wembley Arena and the M.E.N. Arena on the Motion In The Ocean tour, singing Queen's Don't Stop Me Now.

Two of his songs are used in films: Hey Kid appears in Stormbreaker and John Tucker Must Die, with different music videos made for each film, and Crash, a cover of The Primitives' 1988 single, appears in Mr Bean's Holiday. The video for Crash also features Mr Bean with Willis.

Later activity

Willis parts company with Mercury Records in 2007. By 2008, he is writing new material for a new band and occasionally appearing for DJ and PA gigs around the country.
