Matt Black is a British musician and DJ from the United Kingdom, born in 1986. He has been active for around 15 years and works in house alongside an earlier interest in hardcore and drum and bass.
His interest in club music begins after hearing a John Digweed mixtape in 1994, which leads him towards DJing. He starts by playing in pubs and bars around South London and gets his first club gig in 1995. He goes on to play for a range of London underground promoters including Absolution, Feersum, Neighbourhood Dilemma, Sunflowers and Savage.
Black wins the IDJ mix of the month competition in January 2003. He also plays at Audio Deluxe in London, Empathy in Bristol, Riff Raff in Middlesbrough and The Gallery in London, where he warms up for Dave Seaman. His work also takes him abroad, including a three-date mini-tour in Poland and a headline set at Afterhours Cafeteria in Mexico.
Alongside promoter bookings, he puts together his own club nights. These include Pleasure at Plastic People, Scream at Club 9 and Rigid Funk at Belushi’s. He also establishes events through his production company, Housefeelings, and hosts Segment Records nights in London, including a show at Dust Bar in Clerkenwell.
