Mat Zo

Mat Zo is the performing name of Matan Zohar, a London-born electronic music producer and DJ. Born in 1990, he also uses the aliases Unripelemon, Reif and MRSA. He grows up in a musical family, learns guitar as a child, and later develops an interest in electronic music after moving in with his father in London and getting his first computer.

Early development

As a child, Zohar is pushed to take up an instrument and starts guitar in 1998, where he quickly shows aptitude. He develops an early interest in Daft Punk, and through the internet he discovers music production software. From there he begins shaping his own style, drawing on trance, drum and bass and house, with a later move towards a more progressive sound.

Releases and recognition

By 2006, when he is 16, he has his first track signed. Wider attention follows after he wins the Baroque Remix Competition with Lustral’s “In My Life”, which leads to interest from established DJs and producers. By mid-2007 he remixes artists including Andy Moor and Markus Schulz. His profile grows further when Tiësto commissions a remix of “Driving To Heaven”, which appears on the In Search Of Sunrise 7 compilation.

Radio, touring and support

Mat Zo’s monthly Zoned radio show is picked up by Afterhours.fm in 2008. He plays in the Netherlands, Germany, Ukraine, Ibiza, India and several cities in England, and receives support from DJs including Armin van Buuren, Tiësto, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Andy Moor and Airwave.

Labels and style

His releases appear on labels including Intuition Recordings, Armada Music and Anjunabeats. He works across a range of electronic styles, including trance, progressive trance, progressive house and drum and bass, and the verified genre record also places him in bass house, breakbeat, breaks, club and deep house.
