Mas Y Mas
Mas Y Mas are an acoustic power trio performing original and traditional Latin songs, with their music drawing on Latino flamenco and Afro-Cuban influences. They play songs written by Rikki Thomas-Martínez, focusing on themes of love, celebration, fiesta and shared humanity across race, caste and creed.
Line-up
The group consists of Rikki Thomas-Martínez on Spanish guitar and vocals, Wayne D. Evans on double bass and vocals, and Richard Kensington on congas and percussion. Thomas-Martínez is described as a cross-cultural musical traveller whose playing moves through Latin, flamenco, Asian and western musical worlds. He is half Spanish and half Welsh and writes and sings in Spanish, English and French. Evans brings a driving double bass style, soaring vocals and original songs. Kensington uses a percussion setup combining congas, bass drum and clave to support the group’s rhythmic sound.
Style and activity
Mas Y Mas have been performing together for eleven years and play live to audiences in many parts of the world. Their sound centres on dance rhythms and a strong percussion-led pulse, with the trio presenting an energetic acoustic approach to Latin-rooted music.
