Mango
Mango is the stage name of Giuseppe Mango, also known by the diminutive Pino Mango, an Italian pop singer-songwriter and musician from Lagonegro, Italy, born in 1954 and died in 2014. He works in pop and is associated with a style that blends pop with rock, folk and world music, alongside a wide vocal range.
Career and recordings
He is best known for the song Oro, which appears on the 1986 album Odissea, his breakout release. Other notable songs include Lei verrà, Mediterraneo, Bella d'estate, Amore per te, Come Monnalisa, Nella mia città and La rondine.
Writing and influence
Mango writes songs for other Italian artists, including Patty Pravo, Loredana Bertè, Andrea Bocelli and Mietta. His songs are also performed by other singers, among them Mina, Mia Martini, Leo Sayer, Hélène Ségara and Eleftheria Arvanitaki. Italian music writer Mario Luzzatto Fegiz describes him as an innovator of Italian pop music, and AllMusic identifies him as an innovator in Italian rock fusion.
