Magic Lantern
Magic Lantern is a United States psychedelic rock and space rock group associated with droney, long-form instrumental music. The band is based in Long Beach, California, and its line-up includes Gavin Fort, Philip French, William Giacchi, Chip Knechtel and Cameron Stallones.
Style and influences
The group plays extended, drone-led pieces in a psychedelic and space rock style, with comparisons made to bands such as Amon Düül II, Hawkwind and Loop. Its music is also tagged as psychedelic rock, psychedelic, space rock, drone and instrumental.
Releases
Magic Lantern self-releases a cassette called At the Mountains of Madness. Its other releases are described as highly limited and mostly sold out. In 2008 the band releases High Beams on LP. In 2010 it issues the LP/CD Platoon and the 7-inch Showstopper/Cypress on Not Not Fun.
Activity
The tracks for Platoon and Showstopper/Cypress are recorded in 2009, and the band breaks up shortly afterwards.
