Louis Baker

Louis Baker is a soul singer-songwriter from Wellington, New Zealand. His work is associated with blue-eyed soul, folk, neo soul, singer-songwriter and soul, and he is also described as a soloist working across soul, jazz and blues.

Early development

He starts playing guitar at 13 and is writing and composing by 16. At 17, his song “Three Ladies” reaches the finals of the New Zealand competition Play It Strange, and later in the same year he wins the acoustic sessions category of the NZ band competition The Primal Youth.

Performance and study

He studies at Jazz School while continuing to play regular gigs in Wellington, including at the San Francisco Bathhouse, Bodega and the Southern Cross. He also supports The Feelers in January 2010.

Influences

Baker names Jeff Buckley, John Mayer and Jimi Hendrix as influences. He is associated with the group Pass the Gat.
