Lol Tolhurst

Lol Tolhurst is a musician from Horley, United Kingdom, best known as a founding member of The Cure. Born Laurence Andrew Tolhurst, he is associated with rock, electronic, new wave, alternative rock and pop rock.

The Cure

Tolhurst is one of the co-founders of The Cure and begins as the band’s drummer. He helps write and record Three Imaginary Boys, Boys Don't Cry, Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography. After the Pornography tour in 1982, he moves to keyboard duties. He leaves The Cure in 1989.

Other projects and collaborations

After The Cure, Tolhurst is involved in Presence and later in Levinhurst, a project name formed from Tolhurst and his wife, vocalist Cindy Levinson. He is also listed as a member of Cult Hero, The Easy Cure and Budgie & Jacknife Lee.

Early connection with Robert Smith

Tolhurst first meets Robert Smith at St. Francis Primary and Junior Schools when he is five years old, and the friendship later leads to the formation of The Cure.
