Logic is the stage name of Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, an American rapper, producer and author from Gaithersburg, Maryland. He develops an interest in music as a teenager and starts recording in 2009 under the name Psychological.

Early mixtapes and label career

Logic releases Logic: The Mixtape in 2009, followed by Young, Broke & Infamous in 2010. He signs to Visionary Music Group and issues three more mixtapes over the next three years. His fourth mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever, receives critical acclaim and leads to a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings.

Studio albums and commercial breakthrough

His debut studio album, Under Pressure, comes out in 2014 and reaches number four on the US Billboard 200. It is later certified gold by the RIAA and sells more than 171,000 copies. The Incredible True Story follows in 2015, receives mostly positive reviews, is also certified gold in the United States, and sells over 185,000 copies. In 2016 he releases the mixtape Bobby Tarantino.

Everybody, his third studio album, becomes his first album to debut at number one in the United States, with 247,000 album-equivalent units, including 196,000 pure sales. It also produces his first international top ten single as a lead artist, “1-800-273-8255”, which reaches the top three on the Billboard Hot 100.

Later releases, books and side projects

In 2018, Logic releases the singles “44 More”, “Overnight” and “Everyday” with Marshmello, then issues Bobby Tarantino II through Def Jam and Visionary Music Group, featuring 2 Chainz, Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa. He appears in the first episode of Netflix’s documentary series Rapture that same year. Later in 2018 he releases YSIV, preceded by the singles “One Day” featuring Ryan Tedder, “The Return” and “Everybody Dies”. The album includes “Wu Tang Forever”, which features all surviving members of the Wu-Tang Clan.

In 2019, Logic releases his debut novel, Supermarket, through Simon & Schuster, alongside his fifth studio album. That album is described as more experimental than his earlier work and uses more classic rock and indie sounds, with little rap. He says that he is writing two further novels, one with a sci-fi theme and one about bank robberies.

No Pressure, his sixth and then-final studio album, is released in 2020. He later says he is retiring from music to focus on fatherhood. He returns in 2021 with the mixtape Bobby Tarantino III, and in 2022 he releases promotional singles for Vinyl Days, his eighth and final studio album for Def Jam Recordings. He then records four beat tapes under the alias Peanuts.

Recent work and collaborations

Logic releases College Park in 2023, a studio album centred on his rise in Maryland and his path to fame, with appearances from close friends. He also forms the rap duo halfBREED with his long-time friend C Dot Castro, and they release the 3P EP in 2023. In 2024, he releases Ultra 85, which receives positive audience and critical response.
