Lion Club
Lion Club are a south London post-punk and indie rock band, formed in October 2007. The group emerge from the suburbs of south London and are shaped by a reaction against what they see as the state of British music and youth culture at the time of their formation.
Style and themes
Their music is described as a blend of epic rock songwriting, heartache, despair, joy and optimism. They build large, emotive soundscapes around soaring chords, languid melodies and, at times, terrace-style chants. Their songs are framed as a rejection of what they regard as vacuous, apolitical indie and guitar pop.
Early activity
Lion Club develop through regular shows on the all-ages circuit, where they build a strong local following among their peers. They also play support dates with a wide range of indie and alternative acts, including Friendly Fires, Sam Sparro, Glasvegas, White Lies, Johnny Foreigner, Lo Fi Culture Scene and Bombay Bicycle Club. They are also due to perform with Crystal Castles, Florence and the Machine, Midnight Juggernauts and Cajun Dance Party.
Label
The band are associated with 1234 Records.
