Like A Storm

Like A Storm is a rock group formed in 2005, with members Chris Brooks, Kent Brooks and Matt Brooks. The band originates from Auckland and is based in Canada. Its sound is described as drawing on nu metal and rock, with tags that also place it in alternative rock, hard rock, post-grunge and alternative rock territory.

Formation and relocation

The band begins in New Zealand, where the Brooks brothers rehearse together before moving to North America to pursue music. After relocating to Canada, they start building an audience there and establish themselves as a Vancouver-based act.

Line-up and roles

Chris Brooks handles vocals, guitar, programming and didgeridoo. Matt Brooks contributes vocals, guitar and programming. Kent Brooks plays bass and contributes vocals and programming. The group performs as a trio in the verified membership.

Debut album

The End of the Beginning is the band’s debut full-length. It includes the first radio single “Chemical Infatuation” and features a mix of heavy guitars, strong choruses, electronic textures and string arrangements. The record also reflects the experiences the band members have during their move from New Zealand to Canada.

Early development

After a single show in Canada, the band attracts attention. Kai Marcus of Methods of Mayhem and Noise Therapy sees them perform and introduces them to producer, mixer and engineer Mike Plotnikoff, who has worked with Three Days Grace, My Chemical Romance and Buckcherry. Plotnikoff and the band then begin developing material for the debut album.
