Liberty Lies

Liberty Lies are a hard rock band from Wednesbury in the Black Country, West Midlands. The group forms in 2008 and plays as a five-piece. It begins by performing cover versions in pubs to help fund its own material, which it gradually adds to its sets.

Early releases and sound

In 2010, Liberty Lies releases its debut EP, New Addiction. That recording reflects the band’s early influences, including Black Stone Cherry, Alter Bridge and Shinedown. After a change in line-up, the group moves towards a more alternative, modern sound, which leads to its debut album Reflections, produced by Romesh Dodangoda.

Touring and live work

By 2009, the band has support slots with GUN, Skin and Towers of London, and it also secures a UK tour with Magnum. In 2012, Liberty Lies embarks on its first European tour, supporting Shinedown and Halestorm in Germany, Holland and the UK. It also begins to headline small shows around the country.

Fracture and later activity

Liberty Lies follows with the EP Fracture, recorded again with Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios in Cardiff. Nationwide UK runs with other unsigned bands help shape the release. The band is also named as a finalist in Red Bull’s unsigned band competition and comes close to winning a place at Download Festival. In later touring, it signs with TKO Booking Agency and appears with Max Raptor, Heaven’s Basement, Santa Cruz, Empire and Press to Meco, as well as in one-off shows with Alien Ant Farm and Skillet. The band also plays nationwide festivals.

Single releases

The band releases the single Are You Listening in 2016. Its recorded output is described as continuing to evolve while keeping a hard rock base.
