Lee Gamble
Lee Gamble is a UK producer and DJ originally from Birmingham and now based in London. He begins in the jungle scene, playing on pirate radio stations and co-founding the CYRK collective. His work develops from those early influences into experimental electronic production that moves between jungle, techno, abstract club music and ambient textures.
Early releases and label work
Gamble releases his early recordings on the Entr'acte label. These include the 2006 mini-album 80mm O!I!O, the 2009 album Join Extensions, and a 2010 cassette made with the musician Yutaka Makino. He then moves to Bill Kouligas’ Pan label, where Diversions 1994-1996 appears in 2012 as a deconstructed jungle album, followed by Dutch Tvashar Plumes, a techno-oriented record built around heavy reverberation.
Recognition and DJ practice
Both Diversions 1994-1996 and Dutch Tvashar Plumes receive strong critical attention and appear on year-end lists from The Wire and Fact. Gamble also becomes known as a DJ with a wide-ranging approach, moving between house, techno and fully vinyl jungle sets drawn from what he calls “The Golden Age of Jungle.”
Techno development and UIQ
In 2014 he develops his techno sound further with the EP Kuang and the album Koch. The following year he releases the B23 Steelhouse 12-inch. Gamble also starts the club label UIQ, which issues music by artists including Zuli, S Olbricht and Lanark Artefax, as well as his own 2016 EP Chain Kinematics.
Later releases
In 2017 Gamble signs to Hyperdub and releases Mnestic Pressure, an abstract club album. In 2019 he begins the three-part Flush Real Pharynx series with the EP In a Paraventral Scale.
