Laura Jean is an Australian singer-songwriter from Melbourne, Australia. Born Laura Jean Englert in 1982, she performs folk music shaped by classical influences and often uses orchestral instruments in her arrangements.

Career

She appears on Australian stages over many years and is invited to support or share bills with a range of overseas and local artists, including Mark Kozelek, Richard Buckner, M. Ward, Faun Fables, Tuck and Patti, Augie March, Ben Lee, Claire Bowditch, Machine Translations, Gaslight Radio and Sarah Blasko.

Recordings

Her first EP, The Hunter's Ode, appears in 2003 and receives attention from community radio, street press and Triple J. Its title track remains associated with late-night airplay.

She then receives an Arts Victoria recording grant in July 2004, helping her debut album take shape. That album, Our Swan Song, follows with a first single, I'm a Rabbit, I'm a Fox, which gains community radio play across Australia and medium rotation on JJJ.

Her second album, Eden Land, is released in early 2008 with friends performing as the Eden Land Band, and with the Haunting Bird Choir appearing at times. The album is launched at the Corner Hotel.
