Lane

Lane is the name used by more than one band, including a Swedish shoegaze and rock group, an Australian alternative band, a Wollongong band active in the 1990s, and a rock band from Cincinnati, Ohio that starts in 2025. The most detailed entry is for the Swedish group, which forms in Stockholm in the summer of 2002.

Swedish shoegaze and rock band

The Stockholm lineup begins with Maja, Sara and Elia, three friends who meet at high school and share an interest in art and music. Two of them also found a school shoegazer club to celebrate bands linked to the 1990s British pop wave. The band later adds drummer Tine and, afterwards, Johanna on keys and percussion.

The Swedish Lane line-up is Maja Zetterberg on vocals and guitar, Elia Almegård on vocals and guitar, Sara Engström on bass, Tine Burman on drums, and Johanna Österberg on keys and percussion. The band records its self-titled debut album in 2005 with Erik Danielsson and Robin Spurrier at Soylent Green studio, which is also home to South Ambulance and Sickoakes.

The group’s sound is linked to shoegaze, post-punk and alternative rock, and comparisons are drawn with the Concretes and Moe Tucker, while the Sundays and Slowdive are also mentioned in relation to their music. Lane is described as working on new material.
