Lady Maisery

Lady Maisery is a folk group from the United Kingdom. It is a vocal harmony trio made up of Hannah James, Hazel Askew and Rowan Rheingans. James, who is formerly in Kerfuffle, sings and plays piano accordion, clogs and foot percussion. Askew, who is part of The Askew Sisters, sings and plays concertina, harp and bells. Rheingans, who is associated with Fidola and The Rheingans Sisters, sings and plays fiddle, banjo and bansitar.

Style and repertoire

The group draws on folk singing traditions from the UK and northern Europe. It performs songs and ballads both unaccompanied and with instrumental backing from accordion, harp and fiddle. Lady Maisery also works to revive diddling, the practice of singing tunes, which has almost disappeared in England but remains common in Scandinavia and other parts of Europe.

Recordings

Their first album, Weave & Spin, is released in 2011. This is followed by Mayday in 2013 and Cycle in 2016.
