Krysko

Krysko is a DJ of Ukrainian descent who is born and raised in Yorkshire, England. He grows up listening to funk, soul, jazz and house, shaped in part by his uncles’ involvement in the early London house and techno scene. He has been DJing for nearly 17 years and develops a broad taste across dance music and related styles.

Residencies and clubs

In 2000, Krysko becomes resident at The Redlight and Sankeys Soap. After joining Sankeys Soap, he also becomes a Tribal Gathering resident for the new generation, following in the line of the original Tribal Gathering residents. In 2006, after leaving Sankeys Soap, he becomes resident at The Warehouse Project. He also plays at clubs and venues including Stompaphunk, The End, Electric Chair, Back II Basics, Custard Factory, The Arches, The Egg, café Mambo and Somny in Ibiza, as well as events at Notting Hill Carnival and clubs across the UK.

Broadcasts and major events

Krysko plays both Tribal Gathering weekenders, including a live Radio 1 Essential Mix and the Warehouse party for 10,000 people, which wins several awards as event of the year in 2003. He closes the Radio 1 stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2003 and 2004. He also appears regularly on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection, with live mixes and interviews, and includes another live Radio 1 Essential Mix in the 2007 Warehouse Project run.

Collaborations and artists played alongside

He performs alongside a wide range of artists including François K, Underground Resistance, Masters at Work, DJ Sneak, Jeff Mills, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, Deep Dish, Theo Parrish, Groove Armada, Danny Krivit, Joe Claussell, Dimitri from Paris, Jazzy Jeff, Âme and Dixon. He also shares a rare back-to-back set with Derrick Carter. At The Warehouse Project he appears with Underground Resistance, Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Laurent Garnier, Jamie Lidell, Spanky Wilson and The Quantic Soul Orchestra, and Hot Chip.

Projects and releases

Alongside Sankeys Soap and The Warehouse Project, Krysko works as part of rita and sue, a duo that plays soul, funk, jazz, nu soul, disco and Balearic music at festivals and in back rooms. This project leads to a monthly residency at Back to Basics. In September 2004, Sankeys Soap marks its 10th anniversary with a double compilation CD mixed live by Krysko and Vickers, which sells nearly 5,000 copies in its first four weeks and is named mix compilation of the month in DJ Magazine with a 10/10 rating.

Reception

Krysko receives praise from Tom Findlay of Groove Armada, who describes him as one of the most exciting new DJs he has heard and says he will book him for Lovebox. DJ Sneak also praises him, describing him as “bad ass”. He plays the main stage at Lovebox in 2006.
