Kris Drever

Kris Drever

Kris Drever is an Orcadian folk musician from Kirkwall, Scotland, born in 1978. He works as a multi-instrumentalist, playing and singing, and is also known for guitar, banjo and double bass. He moves from traditional pub sessions into wider touring work and session playing, and he has been based in Edinburgh since 1995.

Early work and session playing

He develops a varied career after moving to Edinburgh, where he is in demand across a range of projects. His work includes large tours in the United States and Chile with the dance show Celtic Fusion. After that, he begins working with Fine Friday and also appears as a session musician for Battlefield Band, John McCusker, Kathie Ryan, Harem Scarem and Clare Mclaughlin. He also works with his father, the folk singer and guitarist Ivan Drever.

Tours and collaborations

Drever tours extensively with Fine Friday, including dates across Europe, Canada and Australia. He also tours Canada with trumpeter and fiddler Daniel Lapp, and performs in England, Ireland and Wales with Kate Rusby. He performs with Eamonn Coyne and plays in the John McCusker band.

Lau and other projects

In 2005, Drever joins Aidan O'Rourke and Martin Green to form the trio Lau, which signs to Reveal Records. He also plays in Session A9. His other listed projects include Sea Road Sessions, Spell Songs and McGoldrick, McCusker, Drever.
