Koven

Koven are a London-based electronic music duo formed in 2011. The act consists of producer Max Rowat and Katie Boyle, who performs as vocalist, songwriter and DJ. Their music is associated with drum and bass, dubstep and electronic music, and it also draws on melodic bass, EDM, electronic pop and atmospheric bass-driven production.

Formation and membership

Koven begin in 2011, when Rowat starts releasing music under the name. Early releases help establish the project in the bass music scene, including the Wake You Up EP. Boyle joins in 2014 and brings vocals, songwriting and live performance to the act. The duo remains active as a group.

Style and performance

Their tracks combine bass music production with melodic songwriting, vocals and cinematic or atmospheric electronic elements. Their sound also includes acoustic and electronic influences. In live settings, Boyle often represents the act through DJ sets with live vocals, while Rowat focuses mainly on studio production.

Releases and labels

Koven release music through labels including Viper Recordings, Monstercat, Liquicity, UKF and NCS. Their EP releases include Hereinafter, Sometimes We Are, Come To Light, Reality Reach and Higher Ground. Their debut album, Butterfly Effect, appears on Monstercat in 2020, followed by Butterfly Effect (Deluxe) in 2021. Their second studio album, Moments In Everglow, also appears on Monstercat.

Live work

The duo appear at clubs and festivals internationally. Their live presence is closely linked to Boyle’s role as a performer and front-facing member of the project.
