K.I.M. is the solo alias of Kim Moyes, also known as Kimberley Isaac Moyes, a Sydney-born musician and producer born in 1976. He is one half of the Sydney electronica duo The Presets, where he plays keyboard and drums. He also works in the bands The Dissociatives with Daniel Johns of Silverchair and producer Paul Mac, and has played Moog synthesizer with Sydney band Prop.

Background and work

Moyes is based in Camperdown, Sydney, and graduates from Sydney Conservatorium of Music. His producing credits include Sydney bands The Valentinos and The Cops, and he plays vibes on the soundtrack to the Australian film Somersault with Decoder Ring. He is also associated with Los Angeles/Sydney session drummer Felix X. Bloxsom and London/Sydney theatre actor Sam Smith.

Solo releases and remixes

Under K.I.M., Moyes makes original music and remixes. His solo release System Breakdown includes the tracks “Wet n Wild”, “By The Time They Reach You” and “Party Machini”, and its artwork is by Jonathan Zawada.

Other details

He has stated a dislike of “rock and roll” in connection with a refusal to DJ after a set by The Valentinos at Sydney’s Club 77. He has also described some accusations of borrowing lyrics and themes from other artists as homages.
