Kill It Kid

Kill It Kid is a British blues-influenced group from Bath, England, active from 2008 to 2015. It forms at Bath Spa University and takes its name from the Blind Willie McTell song “Kill It Kid”. The band is associated with americana, blues and grunge, and releases material on One Little Indian Records and Sire Records.

Line-up and sound

The group is built around the two-part harmonies of Chris Turpin and Stephanie Ward. Turpin’s lead vocal is often noted for its resemblance to Anthony Hegarty’s voice, while Ward provides a softer, huskier contrast. Turpin plays guitar and Ward plays piano. The rhythm section consists of Adam Timmins on bass and Marc Jones on drums. The band also includes Stephanie Jean Ward in its listed membership.

Recordings

Kill It Kid’s self-titled debut album appears in 2009, followed by Feet Fall Heavy in 2011. The second album includes the single “Pray On Me”. Their earlier release also includes Richard Jones on fiddle, who later leaves the group.

Later activity

The band splits in 2015. Afterward, Chris Turpin and Stephanie Ward form the duo Ida Mae. Marc Jones later drums for Reef, The Heavy and James Arthur, and also becomes the full-time drummer for Band of Skulls.
