Khemmis

Khemmis is a doom metal band from Denver, Colorado, active since 2012. The group performs as a four-piece and includes Zach Coleman, Ben Hutcherson, Phil Pendergast and David Small. Its sound sits in doom metal and heavy metal, with references to sludge and stoner metal in its broader style.

Style and influences

The band’s music combines slow, heavy riffing with melodic guitar harmonies. Its sound draws on the work of Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden, alongside the weight of contemporary sludge and doom metal.

Absolution

Khemmis releases the six-track album Absolution as a forty-minute set of material. It is recorded with Dave Otero and Shane Howard at Flatline Audio. The album receives attention from critics and listeners, and it is named among the top metal releases of 2015 by Decibel Magazine and one of the year’s notable releases by Pitchfork. It also receives recognition from NPR, Apple Music, Invisible Oranges, Noisey and No Clean Singing.
