Kava Kava
Kava Kava is a group from Huddersfield, United Kingdom, active since 1993. The band starts out as a four-piece live psychedelic funk outfit with strong George Clinton influences, before expanding into a six-piece.
Style and releases
Their early work earns a description as “gorgeous new psychedelic funk” from NME for You Can Live Here. The album Maui appears on independent label Chocolate Fireguard Records and shifts the sound towards dance, electronic, funk and disco. Other digital releases on Chocolate Fireguard Records include Bank Job, Don’t Stop The Music, Tic and Beats For Cheats. The album Forwards appears on the US label Midnight Swimming.
Live work and wider exposure
The group tours in the USA, China and across Europe, and appears at festivals including Glastonbury, Sziget, SXSW, Marktrock, Trutnov, Cork Jazz and Beijing Midi. Their music also appears in film, television and games, including Dirt (three songs in series two), Boys & Girls Guide To Getting Down, John From Cincinnati, LA Riding Club, the Golden Globe-winning series Weeds, Tap Tap Revenge 3 and the Xbox snowboarding game Stoked. Their tracks are also played by DJs including Sat Bisla and Nic Harcourt of KCRW.
